Community Chess Workshop

September 21st from 2:00-3:30pm

Join our 90-minute community chess workshop for beginners ages 8 and up. This relaxed, hands-on session is perfect if you’re just starting out or have never played before. We’ll cover the essentials: how each piece moves, capturing, the relative value of your pieces, how to checkmate a king (the move that wins the game), and some simple ideas for starting a game well. The workshop will be split between short demonstration lessons and guided games where the teacher will offer feedback, advice, and plenty of time for questions.

The goal is to open the door to chess, giving you the basics to build on and the confidence to explore the game further.

I took a DJ class here for two months with Mars. Really enjoyed it and hope to return again. The space felt really inclusive and approachable. Mars was fun and did a great job explaining things in a way that was practical and clear but also detailed / contextual. She had a natural way of teaching to everyone’s level. I hope to take more classes here — the programs seem very thoughtfully coordinated.

Louder is a true gem in the busy heart of Los Feliz. It’s subtle, but powerful. I don’t know how Lorie (the owner) managed to gather such an incredible group of outstanding teachers. But she did. And it works. Our 9-year-old son is now taking guitar, drawing, and chess here, and he’s a huge fan of both the school and his mentors. Highly recommend Louder to any parent who wants to invest in their child’s ability not just to learn the arts, but to build real connections and develop problem-solving skills.

Simha has been an incredible instructor! They are so excellent at teaching technique in such a kind and patient way, I highly recommend them and the school for improving their vocal/musical ability—I have seen tangible results in such a short time and can’t wait to continue training!

Our experience taking Beginners Sewing with Lauren at Louder LA was great! I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn the basics of the sewing machine and figure out how to sew from patterns! Definitely coming back :) in just 3 weeks I was able to sew outfits for my niece/nephew from an old linen top sheet!

I'm LOVING piano lessons with Liza. She's patient, clear, and builds our lessons around the skills that I want to learn. When I'm struggling to understand something, she encourages me to keep trying until it clicks. I love feeling like I'm learning new skills and concepts each week. I highly recommend lessons with Liza!
