CLASS DESCRIPTION

Singing uses breath and the body as an instrument. In Somatic Voice, we will build vocabularies of breath and focus that give us fuller access to the singing voice with joy and ease.

Using breath, focus, storytelling and gesture as our guides, we will explore an array of exercises: meditative, imaginative, and technical. We follow teachings from Bonnie Bridge Cohen (Sensing, Feeling, and Action), Pauline Oliveros (Sonic Meditations), Andrea Olson (Body Stories), and a Vocabulary of Breath developed by the instructor. We seek to gain a feeling of safe embodiment through the voice.

INSTRUCTOR DESCRIPTION

Simha teaches voice (jazz & soul), songwriting, music theory, and Ableton Live production, adapting lessons to students' musical interests and backgrounds. With roots in Indian Classical music and a Berklee College of Music songwriting degree, he blends eastern and western influences to enhance musical storytelling. Simha emphasizes understanding each student's level and preferences, integrating practical exercises and performance analysis. He prioritizes vocal health and effective practice routines, drawing inspiration from concerts, nature, meditation, and community interactions to continually evolve his own music and teaching approach.

Commitment
One session includes four weekly group classes and one make-up, so your rhythm isn't interrupted—even if you have to miss a week. Enrolling in a class means committing to the full session, creating continuity for both you and the group.
